Dr. Hauschka Organic Makeup

Unless it is your fist visit to this site, you probably already know that I’m a huge fan of all things Dr. Hauschka. As far as I'm concerned, their skin care products are a must on everybody's beauty countertop. I’ve reviewed their Quince Day Cream and the absolutely fantastic Eye Cream in the past, and I am happy to say that they are still ruling my bathroom countertop.

But I feel that it is my happy duty to spread the word that Dr. Hauschka also manufactures a complete line of organic makeup products, and that it is probably your purest and most natural choice out there.

The complete line includes foundation, concealer, various powders, shadows, liquid eye liner, mascara, lipstick, lip gloss, lip liner and more :)

So what makes Dr. Hauschka products so wonderful and special? How do I count the ways... They use organic and biodynamic ingredients and pure minerals. The products are BDIH certified natural. Did I mention Biodynamic ingredients? I can't think of any other makeup line that does that...

The products are frequent award winners, receiving Best Natural Make-Up Range at the Natural Beauty Awards, 2006 and Elle’s green star for best mascara in 2008. And Bio-Fach alone (world's largest natural products trade show, whose awards are considered the most prestigious in the natural industry) has singled Dr. Hauschka's makeup on more than one occasion:

  • Lip Gloss 04 as Sales Hit of 2007.
  • Novum Eyeliner liquid as Product of the Year 2004 (the most prestigious award out there).
  • Mascara as second place in Product of the Year 1997 category.

Dr. Hauschka has been profiled by Oprah, Forbes, and pretty much every health and fashion magazine out there. I could go on. But I think you can see the picture. This is the VIP of the organic makeup industry. Virtually as soon as anyone starts taking natural and organic seriously, they hear of Dr. Hauschka and they switch.

To me the thing that stands out about this brand is that they got into the green beauty industry before anyone else even thought about the chemical impact on our products. They are not doing it because it’s the latest “in” thing to do. They’ve been “green” since 1967. Their parent company, WALA, has been producing medicinal herbs since 1930s…

Created in Germany by Dr. Rudolf Hauschka and Elisabeth Sigmund they’ve head the biodynamic focus since the very beginning. The founders were heavily influenced by the anthroposophical writings of Rudolf Steiner who developed the concepts of biodynamic agriculture as part of his holistic philosophy. Holistic relationship with earth and its gifts is at the core of Dr. Hauschka’s philosophy. Biodynamic farming looks at soil and the farm as living organisms, and treats them accordingly. Naturally, this is not a place where you will find synthetics or pesticides.

My personal Dr. Hauschka product favorite is the lip gloss ( Dr.Hauschka Lip Gloss - 02 - Ruby ). Hopelessly delicious scrumptious lip smacker. I highly recommend it if you are looking for healthy and non-sticky gloss.

Overall I have to admit that Dr. Hauschka products are on the pricier side of the scale. But there aren’t really that many alternatives that are this pure yet effective. You could load up on cheap chemicals and get similar surface results. But if you take your skin and general health seriously investing in quality products is more than worth it.

As they say, an ounce of prevention…
